Well, maybe someday. But if you're like me, you've hear the phrase Pulitzer Prize winning poet, writer, photographer, etc. all the time and yet don't really know how much of a big deal it is or isn't. So here is a list of facts about the Pulitzer Prize so you'll be better prepared to understand what the deal is. It was on this day in 1917 that the first Pulitzer Prizes were awarded. Here are some things you might not have known about Pulitzer Prizes: They're announced each year in April and then awarded at Columbia University in May, during a luncheon at the campus library. Each Pulitzer Prize winner receives a $10,000 award and a certificate, except in the Public Service category, where the winner is given a gold medal. Only a newspaper, not an individual, can receive the Public Service prize for journalism. There are 21 Pulitzer categories. Two-thirds of the prizes (14) revolve around journalism. There are six for letters and drama (fiction, drama, history, biography, poetry, and general nonfiction), and there is one prize given for music. The Pulitzer Prize for fiction used to be called the Pulitzer Prize for the novel. The name was changed in 1948. Poet Robert Frost won the Pulitzer Prize four times. Playwright Eugene O'Neill also won four Pulitzer Prizes. The Pulitzer Prize is a very American award. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for the non-journalism Prizes. The exception to this is in the history category: a non-American can win the Pulitzer Prize if he or she wrote a book about the history of the United States. Foreign journalists can win Pulitzers if they write for a newspaper published in the United States. The New York Times holds the all-time record for number of Pulitzer Prizes received. The paper has collectively won 101 Pulitzers. Newspapers generally nominate themselves for Pulitzer Prizes. The fee for each entry is $50, and the material that the newspaper wants the prize board to consider must be accompanied by an entry form. An entry has to fit into one of the 21 categories; it can't be submitted on the grounds that it is just generally good. To be eligible, a paper must be published in the U.S. at least weekly. In 2009, for the first time, online-only news organizations were eligible for the Pulitzer. Before, it was restricted to print publications. Decisions about prize winners are made by the Pulitzer board in secret. Afterward, the board does not publicly discuss or defend its decisions.

I sang Careless at the housefilk and Carly asked me for the tabs.  I may turn into a musician at this rate.  A lot of people love Johns songlist.
I can now sing, or sing and play When youse a viper, Careless, That godforsaken Hellhole, Long Black Veil, 220 Blues, A Christmas Carol (Tom Lehrer), A Fierce Unrest (Don Marquis and Ananias Davisson),  Absolutely Bonkers (Brenda Sutton Three Weird Sisters), Acts of Creation (Cat Faber), Ain’t No Cure For Love (Leonard Cohen), Anna Marie, Cats in the Dawn (Heather Rose Jones), Clem’s Song (Just Call me Clem, Allegra Sloman), Columbus Stockade Blues (actually I got John singing that!),  Demon Java (Steve Key/David Goldfinger), Dirty Movie (Steve Sajich), Don’t Go Looking For Trouble (Steve Goodman), History is Made By Stupid People (The Arrogant Worms), Honky Tonkin’ (Hank Williams), I Can’t Get Over You… (Nate Bucklin), I Pop Pills (Nate Bucklin), I Will Not Sing Along (Actually it’s called the Anti-Singalong Song), I’ll Fly Away, I’ve Been All Around This World (and GOSH did I like Creede Lambards version at the housefilk), Jack Frost, Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon, Let’s Go Down to the Water (Willie P Bennett), Livejournal Shanty (Brooke Lunderville), Lost Highway (Hank Williams), Mind Your Own Business (Hank Williams), Nessie, Come Up (Dr Jane A Robinson, the singing paleontologist, who is now James as of 2004), Never Set the Cat On Fire (Frank “You Scum” Hayes), No High Ground (Leslie Fish), One Meatball, One Time Only (Tom Paxton) which I also think that I encouraged John to learn and nautilus3 and Loki will remember it well, Paint me A picture (David Essig), Paradise (John Prine), Pornographic Pictures of Queen Victoria, Ramboing, Rastus Brown, Show Us The Length (Bob Bossin), Some Other Planet (Joe Hall), Tapioca Song (Allegra Sloman), That Godforsaken Hellhole I Call Home (Austin Lounge Lizards), The 20th Century Is Almost Over  (Steve Goodman), The Jig of the One-Celled Organisms - anon, but John and Paul taught it to me, We Didn’t Know - Tom Paxton, The Word of God (Catherine Faber), Horizontal - Original Sloth Band was who he learned it from (Ken Whitely) but no idea who wrote it.
And I keep updating the songlist, because man o man he knew a lot of tunes.

Cindy was crazy as usual, chasing people and cars if she got a chance ...but overall they were pretty good. Mark was like "The Dog Whisperer" - he seemed to have a knack with them and they listened. Cindy was particularly afraid of him and one time when she got out I asked him to help get her...he yelled in such a way that she was back in the house in less than a minute - something she would never do with me. She was afraid of Jen too, but that one we never figured out.

I did not take any pictures at the house which is a shame. Mark and Jen did a wonderful job with their house and remodeling. The house has a very homey feel and I love how Jen decorated. They have a wonderful deck out back, lots of grass still too and an old shed to store stuff. The house is in the area of Clairemont - a northern area of San Diego built in the early 50's. The area which is about 5 miles from the beach felt a little like a beach community. Older but homey.

Our trip home was as uneventful as the trip there, and quicker. We were home in 6 hours. It was hard to believe but it really isn't that far. There's a stretch of road just after you get out of San Diego that is a long downhill - that, of course, is all uphill going towards San Diego and I think this is why there it took 6 1/2 hours and on the way back in only took 6 hours. Its funny cause as your winding around this road you keep going in and out of San Diego and Imperial Counties. You'll make a turn and you'll see "now entering Imperial County" and you'll go down another sideback and then you'll see "now entering San Diego County" and enter another sideback and then "now entering Imperial County" back and forth a couple of times until you are in one or the other depending on what side of the mountain you are on.

The trip made me realize that I want to be able to do that more often. Not only to San Diego but to other places as well. I like to travel!! I have some things brewing which I'll write about in my next segment (lol).

Television operators tell a story and sometimes try to entertain the audience with the footage they have recorded. They use cameras to or video recorders to make a television series or movies. Film and video editors go through and clean up whatever needs to be done to have a great video or motion picture. In order to do all this work you would have to have creativity and be dedicated and hard working. To get a good shot of something you are recording you have to have a good steady hand so that your recording will not come out shaky or crooked.
You have to have a good understanding of how to use a computer and a camera or video recorder to be in this business. Otherwise you will have a lot of trouble putting together all the footage. When starting in this field most people get a job as an assistant for a newspaper or magazines to get the understanding of how to use the equipment and how to be the best. It is better for you to start this way so that you will know more about what you are doing and you will make less mistakes will editing or filming.
Most operators have jobs at a television station or at a large network. Some however are self employed and have contracts with other networks. The employment rate of camera operators is expected to grow over the next seven years. During this time period they will be provided with new interactive production services.

So, (sorry Miss Julie, I know you don’t like us starting sentences with so.. or having things in pranthesis be too long.. uh) have you ever read so much that you start narating your life?  Well, I don’t know if you have, but it’s a heck of a way to start the day. I can’t believe I just rhymed. So anyways, wow I just did it again, if that has ever happened to you, then maybe you could relate to me. You start out thinking it’s funny, then it keeps going on until you think your crazy. Oh crap. What if it’s just me?? Then, out of the blue, you forget all about it and you just realized that you.. *Que trumpets* have a TAKE ON LIFE!!  So basically, none of that had anything to do about me. It’s just a take I have. Yes, I know, that made no sense. How about I try again?

Hi, I’m Allegra. I like to be random, cheese is delicious, and I have many takes on life, and everything that happens in it. As you may have noticed, I have been going like this a lot. Those things, those tinier, curvier words, are just my thoughts. If you have ever, EVER, had a thought, and I think you have.. (WOAH! A thought) then you might know what I mean when I say that life can sometimes be more interesting, funnier, or even more amazing than life really is without those jumbled words in your head. These are my takes on life.

P.S. Even if no one in the entire world looks at this, Ill probably still keep writing. Maybe. It helps me vent all the unsaid words and thoughts in my head. Yay venting!.

Life in Japan is much more enjoyable then Canadia. So fair ive done lots of things. Shaved Steve's head, become addicted to everything in a vending machine, was given a Yukata for my birthday from Evan, been told im beautiful, and had numerous coments on my skin and been stared at... I litterally had a 17 year old girl stand beside me and stare xD. Oh and Simon is having a blast. He's getting hit on by every girl, and he's getting into the whole 'Hi how are you?' to anyone that looks at him,  so far he's made one girl trip over a parking block to land on her ass, and had a group of young ladies pose for him in their Yukata's.  And the random pictures he's taken are awesome. He also managed to snag two emails and made plans to hang out with a group of girls that basicly stole us at the picture booths.. Which was a lot of fun.. I dont think ive blushed so much in one hour before.

So next time I hear a photographer grumble about shooting yet another sign of a bank or brand logo suffering in this financial downturn, I will thank someone that it isn’t me working for that company going bust. I will thank someone that I am not cooped up in an office all day long. And I will be happy being the proverbial ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ wire-agency photo-journalist. I will remind myself of the far more hostile environments of war, conflict, disease and environmental catastrophe that some of my colleagues have to operate in to get a great picture in ‘their patch’.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, one of the Boston "fireside poets" during the Romantic period, raised his three daughters on his own after his beloved wife, Fanny, died in a tragic accident.

Fanny Longfellow had been using hot wax to seal an envelope containing locks of her daughters' hair. Either the lit candle or burning wax fell on her dress and it caught on fire. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, awoken from a nap, ran to his wife and tried to stifle the flames with a rug and his own body.

Longfellow did stop the fire, but the damage had already been done. The doctor was called for, but there was little that could be done. Fanny died the following morning.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow had reportedly loved his wife deeply. Her death was a great loss for him. In his attempts to save her, his body was so badly burned that he was unable to attend her funeral, and due to major scarring, he was unable to shave for the rest of his life, growing a long beard that became his trademark look.

Longfellow also became a single father of 6 children, most notably the sole parent for the three youngest, who were still living at home at the time. (The oldest, Charles, and Ernest were 16 and 15 and were off at school. The third child, Fanny, had died not long after her birth.) At a time when children were much more so a woman's job, Longfellow took on this responsibility and seemed to truly cherish Alice, Edith, and Allegra, who he had immortalized in one of his most loving, happy poems,
"The Children's Hour", which was published in the September 1860 edition of The Atlantic Monthly, less than a year before his wife's death.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Read "The Children's Hour". Pay attention to the differences in looks and personality between Longfellow's daughters, Alice, Edith, Allegra (who, by the way, would have been about 10, 7, and 5 years of age when this poem was published).
2. Search the Internet for a picture for each of his daughters. (I don't mean actually find pictures of his daughters, but find pictures of other girls who you think would look like, act like, or could represent each girl.... And yes, this means that you will need to have 3 different pictures, 1 for each girl.)
3. Copy all 3 pictures into a word document or PowerPoint (or something of that nature) and print the 1 pg. that contains the three pictures.
4. Head one page in your journal "The Children's Hour" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow". Staple or paste the pictures into your journal. Label each picture with "their name" (Alice, Allegra, Edith). Write a paragraph (underneath the heading and pictures) explaining why you chose the pictures and how they represent Longfellow's daughters.

So this is my personal view on all three of the aforementioned systems. Ive owned all three for some time now, and they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Lets start with the Nintendo Wii. Dont think just because theyre hard to find that theyre some amazing new technology. Im going to go ahead and say it. Its a supped up Gamecube with motion control. The thing is, the motion control isnt even true to your every movement. That plug-in addition, call Tru-Motion, is being released soon. The Wiimote, as the controller is called, works on 3 axis, where as a true-motion detection system works on 4. The 4th axis being your position in connection with the XYZ axiesI only know this from the movie Event Horizon. Anyway, the Wii is fun for the casual gamer. Perhaps someone that wants to sit down and have fun. A player that doesnt care about CPU horsepower or 1080p resolution. 480p is all youll get out of the Wii. Its actually a good Web Browser, since you use the motion controller to click on things on the screen. So, thats a plus. Its also kid friendly. Its easy to pick up and play. Its sad though that the 360 and PS3 smash it technically. But it is also the most affordable of the three. Starting at $250. So if you want quick easy fun, and the ability to buy and play old games from the NES, SNES, and N64 days, among others, then the Wii is for you.

Onto the PS3. One big complaint off the batokay twoFirst, there are required hard drive installs on almost every game. Why is it that this machine has Blu-Ray HD built in, but you have to wait on installing files to your harddrive. Not only does it eat up harddrive space, but when you get a new game you cant just throw it in and play. Boo to that. It is nice that you can plug and play any harddrive easily, unlike Microsofts bizarre 360 harddrive setup. Second big complaint is the lack of games. Well, should I say lack of PS3 exclusives. Perhaps the days of exclusives are behind us. Yet, I doubt well ever see Zelda or Mario on a PS3 or 360. Where the PS3 lacks in games it more than makes up for in its ability to be a multimedia powerhouse. This thing can play almost anything you throw at it. To a degree. It supports Ipod video format, Windows movie format, DivX format, and more. This is truly a machine that if we could copy all our DVD movies to a hard drive, this would be the one of choice. And its very plug and play compatible. Have an external harddrive with movies or music? Just plug it into the usb and youre up and running. And the PS3 DVD upconverter is amazing, not to mention the Blu-Ray HD playback. Very sharp and clean. It even makes low-res videos look good. How do they do that. Add a PSP to the mix and you can access all your music, videos, and other files anywhere in the world. Yes, the PSP has a Remote Control feature that lets you connect to your PS3 over the internet anywhere, and access all its features. Pretty wild stuff, and theres more to come. This console was built ahead of its time, and I hope developers will take the time to use it to its full ability. So the PS3 is weak on games, but full-powered on Multimedia functions. Above and beyond Microsoft and Nintendo on the multimedia side.

And finally, I discuss the Xbox 360. This was my first foray into the Nex-Gen gaming systems. Its something special when you plug in such a new technology and see the images on the screen. This machine is the reason I went out and bought an HDTV and a digital 5.1 surround sound system. I was blown away by Gears of War on my standard TV, but I knew I was missing the full experience. My Xbox(s) have been great. A couple complaints though. First, the sound of the thing running is ridiculous. The PS3 purrs and revs up only when its getting hot. The Xbox 360 is loud from the start. Also, the failure rate of the 360s are crazy. Aside from that, the 360 is gaming console of choice. The game library is large and full of great titles. Its contrast and colors look sharper than the PS3, and it just feels like more of a Nex-Gen gaming console. And also, I have big hands, so I like the Xbox controller. Its big and the layout makes more sense than the dated Playstation controller. Its hard to explain, but having one thumb on the stick, and one thumb on the action buttons with both thumbs parallel to each other isok thats pushing it. So in my book, the Wii is ok but not Nex-Gen, the PS3 is great for movies, and the Xbox 360 is the current winner of the Nex-Gen GAMING systems. By the way, what are they going to call the next Xbox? The Xbox 540.
